The Living Nile

The SCS Water School Project 2009

After establishing the first steps of the ongoing Living Yangtze Project in China last year, Swarovski Water School now turns its ecological focus towards the majestic Nile River of the African continent.

The region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will be the headquarters of the SCS Water School’s activities and programmes. Under the leadership of Swarovski’s ecological advisor Dr. Christoph Imboden and the established partnership with The Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT), Swarovski Water School will provide local school children with educational programmes on the ecological aspects of water. Charity Bwiza, programme manager, is fully committed to ensuring children understand just how important water is. Additionally, provisions for safe water storage facilities, water sanitation developments and improved water quality are being introduced into the community.

With these measures, the protection of the gorillas will indirectly benefit by ensuring that the forested habitat of this endangered species will not be destroyed. The region in and around the
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is also the source of many rivers and streams that flow into the Nile River.
